IGNITIATIVE

Working in partnerships to better communities.

At IGNITION, it's not about just making a donation,
it's all about making a difference!

As a Social Enterprise, we're committed to giving back to communities. We love working with a broad range of partner programmes to devise and deliver strategies which help to serve and develop the social fabric of many communities across Belfast. When designing the core aims of IGNITION, we looked at the various issues that can affect many people and communities within Belfast, and beyond! We also looked at the work being carried out by our clients, and other third sector organisations, and it is with these that we created a series of programmes and initiatives to maximise of social contributions. This programme is referred to as our IGNITIATIVE.

"I hope you have an experience that alters the course of your life, because since Africa, nothing has ever been the same!"

Belfast 2 Blanco is a programme we're very proud to be a part of. IGNITION teamed up with R City Belfast to capture the life changing experience of 12 young people from Ardoyne & Shankill. In fact, Belfast 2 Blanco is the reason IGNITION exists. Through an experience like no other, the wheels were set in motion to bring about our Social Enterprise. We've worked since 2014 to provide Photos & Video to help showcase and evaluate the programme.

Watch the 'Leaving Blanco' stage of the programme below.

Since 2014, we've worked with the programme to deliver more than 35 showcase and evaluation videos. We've also provided the project with a Website to showcase their amazing work to a wider audience. In April 2016, the website saw more than 43,000 unique visitors over the space of a 3 week period - all while the #B2B2016 were in South Africa. Each year also helped to financially sponsor programme - as it's one we feel is amazing experience and one which contributes massively to the personal and social development of its participants.

The programme is rewarding for so many reasons. Not only do we get to travel to an amazing country and meet some remarkable and inspirational characters, but we also get to work 12 amazing young people each year. Watching each of their individual phases of development during the international, as well as the personal challenges they conquer and how they excel when of their comfort zones is something that is very refreshing contributes massively to our job satisfaction.

"Sometimes you find yourself in the middle of nowhere,
and sometimes in the middle of nowhere you find yourself."

In October 2015, we partnered with New Lodge Youth Centre to work on their Project Romania. This programme saw 6 young people work effortlessly to participate in a wide range of selfless actions for their own community, and those surrounding it. This included working with HomelessAware (our sister organisation) to take part in outreach and awareness courses. Other areas involved working with local elderly, and also social action projects such as community clean-ups, and volunteering with the 174 Disability Group weekly - all essential to prepare for the international stage of the programme.

In February 2016, the group travelled to Baraolt, Romania for an unforgettable journey - working in a School for the disabled, family homes (rehabilitation centres), Orphanages and local High Schools.

Once again, in 2017, the 2016 group (Year 2s) decided to continue on their work when they returned to their community, and so were presented with the opportunity to return to Baraolt for 2 weeks in February 2017 - on a more leadership based capacity. As well as that, an entirely new Year 1 group came on board the programme and brought with them their own champion attributes.

Watch the '2017 Project Romania' showcase videos below.

Since 2015, we've worked in partnership to help with its showcasing, and fundraising. We've also been able to sponsor the programme financially. Again, it's one we find to be very important and were very happy to offer help in every way we could!

Working together to create awareness, promote solutions and tackle the issue head on.

IGNITION helped to create HomelessAware back in 2014, and since then we've been happy to provide pro-bono access to services such as branding, video, photo, social media and more! This initiative is one that is headed by IGNITION Director for Communities Paul McCusker. Paul is a key campaigner for Homeless People and devotes a lot of time to supporting those forced to present as Homeless daily.

We've been all too happy to get involved with a number of projects including a Homeless Aware Christmas Campaign, a Homeless Aware Residential, and several Homeless sleep outs. The organisation also engages with young people - facilitating outreach programmes, awareness sessions and food drives etc.

Watch the 'Looking Forward' stage of the 2016 Homeless Aware Residential showcase below.

From September - December 2016, we worked alongside our sibling organisation Homeless, where we were asked to facilitate a short residential around personal reflection for a group of men who were currently homeless, and recovering from addictions. The residential is one that will definitely go down in our highlights! From start to finish the men were second-to-none and how they each expressed themselves, their challenges and the goals they set for the future are something everybody should take as inspiration!

Supporting communities from the ground up.

We love working with such a broad range of clients, and more particularly a diverse range of communities - and we feel it's only fair we do our bit to help!

IGNITIATIVE DONATIONS 2015-16

Through our IGNITIATIVE Scheme, we've been able to help a number of organisations to deliver their first class work to members of the community, and we at IGNITION have one particular focus group - young people. Youth are a massive part of what we do and that's why we look to support programmes that offer the most value for young people, but also offer value to their communities.

IGNITION Belfast Youth Awards

IGNITIATIVE - Youth Awards
IGNITIATIVE - Youth Awards

As we've stated, young people are a massive part of what we do! A common problem we deal with is the lack of recognition and acknowledgement for the many achievements we see young people obtain. That's why we created the #igYouthAwards. A simple event that invites everyone to nominate young people for 20 different category awards.

The IGNITION Belfast Board of Directors decided it should be developed in a way that offers maximum recognition for a wide range of themes and achievements - from sport or overcoming adversity. As well as this there are an additional 5 categories that have been created as Special Recognition Awards - and these will have been determined by our IGNITION Board of Directors.

IGNITION Further Education Bursary

IGNITIATIVE - Tuition Fee Sponsorship

In February 2016, we pledged to cover the cost for one person to attend Ulster University to study their Pre-Vocational Certificate in Community & Youth Work. We we're delighted with the response we had for this, and we're even more proud that we doubled the programme and sent 2 people to study at University.

The bursary consisted of a Full Tuition Fee Scholarship for two people to enter the education system. The course is one which offers a broad depth insight into Youth Work and readily prepares workers for the challenges waiting ahead within their centres.

IGNITION Creative Recognition Programme

IGNITIATIVE - Creative Recognition Programme

At a time when STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) Subjects are being sought out, we think it's important that a large portion of the skills required for careers within these sectors also come under the Arts. Design, Visual Planning, Reporting, Promotion, Marketing, Branding and more require a high level of Arts based skill. This is why we're working hard to put the A (Arts) in to STEM, giving us STEAM! To help us achieve this, we created the Creative Recognition Programme - which involves working with schools form the ground up to recognise and reward Creative/Arts based achievements.
